Australian Radio Site Map

Iʼve put up a free, live-updating map of Australiaʼs radio sites at radiomap.lachy.io, for the fellow SDR enthusiast.

Radiomap shows all Australian radio sites, licenses, and operators. You can filter for specific service types, search within a frequency range, or do a free-text search.

Poking around the map this morning, Iʼve come across:

ACMA, Australiaʼs radiocommunications regulator, publishes regular extracts of their license database. Years ago, spench published RFMap, a Google Maps mashup (remember those?) visualising the database. Itʼs been offline for a decade, and there hasnʼt been a free online substitute in the interim.

Radiomap regularly fetches the latest RRL extract and imports it into a Postgres database. A little Go server (running on an AliExpress mini PC under my desk) and a MapLibre frontend serve the web interface. PostGIS does the heavy lifting of vector tile generation.
